A metallurgical through-process simulation system for the production of high-strength cold rolled steel grades which allows to calculate the evolution of microstructure during production, to predict the relevant microstructural parameters characterising the structure of the finished product and the mechanical properties of the finished product from the calculated microstructural parameters has been developed and validated.The simulator is composed by the following set of metallurgical submodels: - stress-strain curve during cold rolling and the resulting cold rolling forces and torques,
- development of the microstructure during cold rolling,
- nucleation, growth and coarsening of AlN and NbC during annealing,
- dissolution of cementite and the formation of austenite during heating and soaking,
- recrystallization and grain growth,
- growth of ferrite, formation of pearlite and precipitation of cementite during cooling,
- temper rolling process,
- mechanical properties in the as-annealed and temper-rolled condition.
All the above models take into account the effect of the different alloying elements in the steel.The calculations are carried out within a purposely developed graphical user interface which allows to obtain the results in form of graphs and reports and permits the optimization of the chemical composition of the steel and of the process performing all the necessary calculations in a friendly environment.
