Creep resistance is a fundamental requirement for materials specifically tailored for high temperature applications. The scope of the work is to demonstrate the possibility to predict, with high degree of accuracy, the material creep response for long lives using a continuum damage mechanics (CDM) based approach where creep damage is controlled only by the level of accumulated creep strain independently on the time needed to reach a given strain level. The application of this model to ASTM P91 steel confirmed the possibility to account for secondary damage mechanisms such as the precipitation of Laves and Z-phase by appropriate modification of damage parameters definition. The transferability of the model predictions with respect to stress level, temperature and stress triaxiality is also demonstrated.
