FABBRICAZIONE MEDIANTE TECNOLOGIA LASER DI UNA CAMERA DI COMBUSTIONE DI UN TURBOMOTORE AERONAUTICO

The work summarises the main results obtained in the activities carried out by Piaggio Aero Industries S.p.A. and Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A. in order to assess the possibility to introduce, as innovative fabrication technique for aeronautical motor component, laser welding technology. In particular activities have been focalised to examine the possibility to change the present welding processes used to fabricate the aero engine combustion chamber of an aeronautical turbines, fabricated using a nickel-chromium-molybdenum alloy with thickness in the range of 0.7 mm ÷ 2 mm.Sound joints have been produced with proper precautions, i.e. accurate bevel preparation, also with high productivity: autogenous welding with welding speed up to 18 m/min for lower thickness has been achieved.The obtained results have been pointed out laser welding as a suitable technology for joining and as an alternative to the industrial use of others, today used, welding technologies in gas turbine industry.
