CSM attends the Airi-Day on Excellence of the Italian Industrial Research
 CSM awarded with the "2006 OSCAR MASI" Prize ...
On May 9th 2007, the  Italian Industrial Research Association (AIRI), awarded CSM with the "2006 OSCAR MASI" Prize on “Technologies and Sustainable Products for the excellent results achieved in the inertisation of hazardous waste through the “Plasma Torch Technology”. The high temperatures and the high thermal fluxes which can be achieved with Plasma Torch, allow the dissociation of even very complex molecules, the complete melting of the residual slags and the complete destruction without any dioxin production of all dangerous compound. In addition, the inert products which are produced feature mechanical characteristics which make possible their reuse. With two pilot plants (500 kW and 1 MW respectively) CSM carried out demonstration tests of inertisation of hazardous wastes containing both inorganic and organic components. The inorganic wastes treated were such as ash - from WTE (Waste To Energy) plants for the incineration of MSW (Municipal Solid Waste) – and ACW (Asbestos Containing Waste). Tests on organic wastes were performed on PCB (Polychlorinated Biphenyls) - containing oils and ASR (Automotive Shredder Residue, i.e. auto fluff). All measures and the analysis performed of the final products have proven the effectiveness of the developed technology. The high reliability, obtained through a careful choice of the design criteria and the materials of the torch, allow in fact to significantly reduce the running costs. Accordingly, CSM is on the way to undertake several initiatives for the industrialization of the technology. It is intended to lead the establishment of a Centre of Excellence for Environmental Technologies in cooperation with the shareholder AMA (Rome’s Municipal Environment Agency)
