International Workshop Stainless Steel in Ground Transport Vehicles... - Rome, 28th November 2008

Centro Sviluppo Materiali S.p.A. (CSM), supported by the European Union from the Research Fund for Coal And Steel (RFCS), is organising an International workshop on stainless steel in buses and railway carriages. It will be held on November 28th 2008 at the CSM offices of Castel Romano (Rome, Italy).
This event is organised in the frame of the INSAPTRANS European Project. Partners are: ACERINOX, ARCELOR MITTAL, CSM, EUROINOX, COCAS, OUTO KUMPU, TKK, VTT.
The workshop is focused on stainless steels which have innovative solutions to offer for public transport on rail and on road. As a matter of fact, their mechanical properties help designers to reduce weight, enhance impact resistance and improve fire safety. Stainless steels combine intrinsic corrosion resistance with excellent reparability. And they can be surprisingly cost-effective. Innovative solutions in bus manufacturing and in the design and manufacture of metro or other rail vehicles have been investigated in recent European research projects. Their results were compiled in a concise publication and presented to a larger circle of industry experts in six seminars, which took place in autumn 2008 across Europe, and among them, the one in Rome held in October, at CSM. The workshop on 28th November draws conclusions from these six seminars and identifies areas, in which further information is needed. Participation is by invitation only. You have been selected as a representative decision maker. In contrast to the seminars, which informed the delegates about the potential of stainless steel, this workshop will include a roundtable discussion, in which the flow of information shall be reversed. Participants are invited to present their views on stainless steel. The key questions will be determined by the delegates. The workshop will be structured as follows: Summary presentations:
