METALLURGICAL ASPECTS OF THE COMPACT REHEATING TREATMENT OF HOT ROLLED STRIPS BEFORE COILING
I. Salvatori, Referee: E. Anelli, S. Fortunati ECSC Final report 7210-PR/351
This project concerns the study of the metallurgical opportunities of a compact in-line reheating treatment after hot rolling.  The main overall objectives of the project were:
• To assess the metallurgical opportunities of a fast reheating treatment on the run-out table (ROT) of the hot strip mill or just before the coiler in a heavy warm rolling line for the development of new steel qualities for direct application.
• To evaluate the interest of such reheating treatment after hot rolling to facilitate the subsequent processing, such as cold rolling to achieve thinner gauges for high strength formable steels.
In particular, CSM focused on the exploitation of an in-line reheating treatment on the ROT of the hot strip mill for the following products: low silicon electrical steels (Fe-1.5%Si) and high strength quenched and tempered (Q&T) steels.
