ECSC Final Report RFS-CR-7210-PR/336
The CSM activity in the project was focused on evaluating the feasibility of the chemical reduction of the typical mill scale present on a hot rolled low carbon steel strip, constituted essentially by iron oxides (Fe2O3, Fe3O4, FeO), at different process conditions and on comparing the surface characteristics and properties of the reduced hot rolled strips with those of conventionally pickled ones. The work is based on laboratory experiment using thermogravimetric techniques, pilot plan trials and microscopic characterisation of the samples. The results permitted to identify effects of operating procedures on scale characteristics and, effectiveness of scale reductions. From the results indication for industrial application are given.
