Today, Centro Sviluppo Materiali is a prominent enterprise among European top materials R&D centres, cooperating with Italian and international industries, universities and research agencies and playing a recognised role as a national and international reference-point for innovation on materials.
HOW CSM OPERATES
The whole organization is strongly motivated and oriented towards achieving results on R&D projects commissioned by its shareholders and customers in complete respect for confidentiality and exclusivity criteria. Formal commitments between the parts regard the issues of costs’ sharing, time schedules and targets.
CSM’s activities cover the entire cycle of innovation:
- basic applied research (physical, chemical and mechanical properties, new alloys, innovative coatings etc.),
- design, engineering and processing (on pilot, demonstration and industrial scales),
- functional prototype production,
- process/system automation and control,
- components and structures safety assessments,
- material and component testing,
- environmental issues and materials recycling.
THE MATERIALS
CSM’s research is centred on development and applications for steels, light alloys (titanium, aluminium), Ni and Co-base super-alloys as well as ceramics and cermets, special surface-engineered products, metal matrices, polymeric, hybrid composites, inter-metallic materials and organic coatings.
MARKET AND CUSTOMERS
CSM focuses on all industrial sectors for which materials and their production, transformation and application technologies are key competitive factors; in particular: metallurgical industry, transformers and users of materials (mechanical engineering, transport, aerospace, oil and gas industries, infrastructures) and environmental operators. All this is done considering the complementary interests of its shareholders and customers.
